NBA Hangtime is essentially the sequel to NBA Jam Tournament Edition. Midway continued the franchise after Acclaim took over the right to the Jam name.
NBA Hangtime (or NBA Hang Time) is a basketball game developed for the arcade in 1996 and ported to every active console at the time, which included a mix of 16-bit and 32-bit systems. It is the successor to Acclaim's NBA Jam and NBA Jam Tournament Edition games - the same development team behind both moved to Midway, necessitating a name change - and features a similar mix of arcade-style play and over-the-top personality. Players take on the AI or each other in teams of two, selected from a larger pool of players available for each of the 29 represented NBA teams, and streaks are often rewarded with the "on fire" status which greatly increases their speed and dunking capabilities.
