Ganbare Goemon 3: Shishijyuurokubei no Karakuri Manji Katame is the third Super Famicom Ganbare Goemon game (of five) and the twelfth overall. The plot concerns the Wise Man, the lecherous genius who built Sasuke and the other ninja mechanical dolls (Katakuri), who discovers a means to travel to the future to hit on modern Japanese girls. While in the future he is taken hostage by a familiar-looking nun and it's up to Goemon, Ebisumaru, Sasuke and the newly playable Yae to chase through time after him. Goemon's enormous robot doppelganger Impact also makes an appearance.

The game is the first in the Goemon series to do away with the stage structure of earlier games, in which the player would have an "adventure stage" where Goemon and co. explore overworld sections and then an "action stage" which had more overt 2D side-scrolling platformer gameplay. The overworld is now a lot larger and interconnected, and entering certain areas lead to their action stages.
