Set in 1890s London, Loretta no Shouzou (or "Portrait of Loretta") follows the adventures of world-class sleuth Sherlock Holmes as he tracks down a priceless painting.

Using a few menu commands, such as "look" and "take item" and "talk", the player must assist Sherlock in travelling the width and breadth of London searching for hints and clues to solve the mystery.

It was the first game of its type for the system and was possibly inspired by the success of the similarly-structured Famicom game Portopia, which would itself receive many imitators on its native system. It is also notable for being the last game released on the Master System's predecessor, the Sega SG-1000.
