Cobra Mission was made in 1994 by ASDER for clone Systems of the Family Computer. The player takes the role of a young man, who fights a terrorist organization in order to save his girlfriend.
The game consists of five missions and features several boss fights. The game's story unfolds on a typewriter. The player uses a six shot revolver which is reloaded by shooting off screen.
The first level is a hostage situation. Shooting civilians will cause a live penalty. In the second level the terrorists are battled on the streets. The third level takes place at a factory where ninjas are fought. The fourth level is similar to the second level. The last level is divided into three parts. First monsters are shot in a biological laboratory. Then a boss fight against a HIND like helicopter takes place. Finally the helicopter pilot is fought on a rooftop.
The game strongly resembles Lethal Enforcers. Especially the game's interface, the first mission, the car mission and the boss fight against the helicopter seem to be heavily inspired. However Cobra Mission is not as similar to Lethal Enforcers as Lethal Weapon is. Lethal Weapon was covered in episode 18 of light gun reviews. Furthermore Cobra Mission's intro is a sprite swap of the intro from Mega Man II.
The music is well made and interesting. Personally I like the game. The difficulty is well done. While being quite challenging, it is well suited regarding the game's short length. I like the graphics and the lovely cut scenes. The ending felt very rewarding to me. In my opinion the game is besides Lethal Weapon and Strike Wolf one of the high points of Taiwanese NES light gun games.
The label is pretty drawn and represents the game well. However it doesn't make sense that the hero holds a 7 inch 1911 instead of a revolver.
