Wheel of Fortune nes __long_description = Wheel of Fortune was the first game based on the TV game show for the NES. It was developed by Rare and released on the same month as their NES Jeopardy! adaptation. Rare would follow it up with two more NES adaptations of the show: Wheel of Fortune: Junior Edition and Wheel of Fortune: Family Edition. It follows the rules of the show, where people spin a wheel and then try to solve a hangman puzzle, either guessing a consonant or spending their reward money to buy a vowel. Up to three human players can play via a pass-and-play system. Players must input their answers within a time limit using the in-game text parser. | 2021-01-16 12:10:17 jyanncorp |

Werewolf: The Last Warrior nes __long_description = An evil leader and his gang of bio-engineered monsters has taken over the land and only one man stands in their way. Only he's not a man, he is a lycanthrope, a person able to transform into a terrible werewolf to let loose his anger. You start the game in human form. The human can punch, jump, move and shoot a powered up shot which moves horizontally across the screen. By finding a Red "W" icon, the human is able to transform into a mighty werewolf creature. Accidentally grabbing a blue "W" icon or losing too much energy will change you back into a mere human being. The werewolf form offers higher jumps, quicker speed, greater strength, a shockwave attack and the ability to climb walls, so naturally you'll want this form whenever possible. Additionally the werewolf form has an anger meter that is augmented by collecting orbs. After 5 such orbs, the werewolf will transform yet again into a SUPER werewolf with even greater strength, speed and partial invincibility. There are 5 stages in all. Each with a boss who moves in a distinct pattern. | 2021-01-16 11:59:58 jyanncorp |

WCW: World Championship Wrestling nes __long_description = WCW: World Championship Wrestling is an isometric wrestling game of the National Wrestling Alliance. Players can choose to engage in one- or two-player matches as either 1vs1 solo bouts or 2vs2 tag-teams. Upon selecting a mode, players choose their characters from among twelve featured wrestlers from the NWA league. Licensed characters include: Rick Flair ("Nature Boy"), Sting, Lex Luger ("Total Package"), Mike Rotunda, Road Warrior Hawk, Road Warrior Animal, Steve Williams (""Dr. Death"), Kevin Sullivan ("Gamemaster"), Ricky Steamboat ("The Dragon"), Ric Steiner ("Dogface Gremlin"), Eddie Gilbert ("Hotstuff") and Michael P.S. Hayes. Each wrestler has unique abilities not shared by the other wrestlers, including finishing moves and rope toss. Prior to a match, the player is presented with a menu of eight "moves", of which the player chooses four to assign to the points of the directional pad. Once the match starts, the player is only able to use the four moves selected and the rope toss to attack the opponent. Each wrestler can move up, down, left and right inside the wrestling ring, climb the turnstiles at each corner and throw opponents out of the ring (where they will be disqualified if outside for 20 seconds). Each wrestler has a high damage "finisher move" which can only be performed when they are standing in the middle of the ring and the opponent's stamina bar is low. | 2021-01-16 11:48:54 jyanncorp |

Warpman nes __long_description = Warpman, by Namco, is an updated version of Warp & Warp, in which the player moves between levels via a temporarily open warp gate at the center of the screen. On the first screen, the player character shoots a laser rifle in four directions to destroy enemies as they appear. On the second screen, players lay bombs around a grid in order to defeat enemies that wander too close. In effect, these two modes superficially resemble Berzerk and Bomberman. It is unsure why Namco would bother rereleasing an old Arcade game, but it is thought that they intended to cash in on the then-present Bomberman craze, which was selling very well on home computers and had not yet made it to the Famicom (it would be released a few months after Warpman). The updated "cutesy" character sprites and its name change to include "man" would seem to suggest that Namco wanted to play up the game's influence on Bomberman. | 2021-01-16 10:57:55 jyanncorp |

Wario's Woods nes __long_description = Wario's Woods is a puzzle game similar to Tetris or Columns, but with a twist. Instead of directly controlling the monsters and bombs that are falling down, the player controls Toad who has to carry around stacks of monsters and bombs and to combine them in the right way. One bomb plus at least two monsters of the same color have to be combined to make them disappear. If five or more objects are cleared at the same time, a diamond will appear. Destroying the diamond will clear all monsters of the diamond's color. There are four different ways to pick up objects. The A button lets Toad pick up the whole stack that is in front of him, the B button lets him only pick up one object, even if it's in the middle of a stack, the Y button lets him kick a monster or bomb that's in front of him and the X button places him on top of the stack that he is carrying. He can also run up walls and stacks to catch falling objects out of the air or to pick up certain parts of a stack. There are 5 different modes of play: a "Round Game" in which Toad has to clear numerous levels, a match versus a computer controlled opponent, a two player mode, a "Time Race" mode, and finally, an extensive training mode. There are some differences between the SNES and NES versions. Due to a lack of buttons, controls are a little different in the NES version (although all the moves from the SNES version are present). Also, there is no vs. mode against the computer, but the "Round Game" mode features two modes of play: one that includes boss-fights on every level ending with a 9. | 2021-01-16 10:51:12 jyanncorp |
War on Wheels nes __long_description = Created in a bid to cash in on the brief and inexplicable roller derby resurgence of the late ’80s, War on Wheels paired team-based racing gameplay with hand-to-hand combat mechanics. In the game, players battle opponents as they race around an indoor track, pausing occasionally to pound on rivals in close-up, Blades of Steel-like fight sequences. By the time War on Wheels was slated to debut in 1991, the roller derby television series Rollergames had ended its first and only season, and young Americans had moved on, priming themselves for a future brimming with pogs and Image Comics. War on Wheels earned low review scores when it was featured in Video Games & Computer Entertainment magazine, and otherwise received minimal coverage from print publications at the time. The tepid response from reviewers and the waning popularity of roller derby itself prompted Jaleco to cancel the game prior to its release, shelving it alongside other stalled projects like Squashed and Bashi Bazook: Morphoid Masher. | 2021-01-16 10:50:04 jyanncorp |

War in the Gulf nes __long_description = The Gulf War wasn't even over when NTDEC a.k.a. Mega Soft delivered another unlicensed shooter based on the conflict for the NES, in an opportunist move that can't be taken for granted in their little corner of 8-bit history. War in the Gulf, or La Guerra del Golfo as displayed in the Spanish Gluk cover, is probably the first video game to use that particular piece of history as background, as much as that might mean for such a rudimentary shooter. On its behalf we can say it's got a true seal of authenticity in the presentation panel for the final level, which features a rendition of Saddam Hussein as you enter his "underground palace" to put an end to the war. Given the game's main aircraft choice, there's certainly some confusion when you notice the cover shows a fighter jet in action instead of a badass chopper. Not much to comment on that front, but within Mega Soft's library of piss-poor games there's no denying that War in the Gulf is the best of them. With the exception of the occasional weird hit detection and a handful of cheap hits/deaths, the game at least manages to show a little variety throughout five stages graphically molded after clouds, ocean, desert, airport and fortress. It's a poor man's Silkworm meets Airwolf, but it's certainly above the inept results of Magic Carpet 1001 or Sea of Dreamland. | 2021-01-16 10:26:44 jyanncorp |
