I've tested the "ADF, AGA, M3, cr Bad Karma, a AL" variant with "DEUTSCHE" language setting and there's no GURU up to and including the first mission. Seems like this variant is working.

I have reported this to the TOSEC corrections thread - http://eab.abime.net/project-tosec-amiga-only/43630-tosec-amiga-correction-thread-58.html#post896667 - it looks like "ADF, AGA, M3, cr Bad Karma" can be rated down -Should investigate further and check if a new variant is needed, or if the "ADF, AGA, M3, cr Bad Karma, a AL" one is good.
No wonder, I did a comparison between the two cr Bad Karma (Disk 1) disks, and this is the result: http://pastebin.com/CB3N9khf (Disks are more or less the same, except for the file GeoData/German.pak!)
TOSEC Importer found the new Bad Karma variant

maybe that also explains why it guru with german language selected
a good disk is in tosec.

@profo confirmed, I'll add a warning that variant. German seems to work with "ADF, AGA, M3, cr Bad Karma, a AL" and "ADF, AGA, M3, cr PSG".
"ADF, AGA, M3, cr Bad Karma" -> selecting "DEUTSCHE" (german) in language selection leads to Guru Meditation.
Hmm, tested Whdload v1.0, AGA, 0157 with A1200/020 and 16MB Zorri III memory, same problem as you described...
Hmm, got it working by going extreme: Amiga 4000 with 128GB of Zorro III memory. Probably needs to be tested more
