Hokuto no Ken 3: Shinseiki Souzou Seiken Retsuden ("Fist of the North Star 3: The Creator of the New Century - History of the Dreaded Fist", roughly) is the third game in Shouei/Toei's series of video game adaptations of the Hokuto no Ken/Fist of the North Star post-apocalyptic martial arts manga. The series would see one more Famicom game - Hokuto no Ken 4: Shichisei Hakenden Hokuto Shinken no Kanata e, released in 1991 - before moving to the Super Famicom.

The player begins the game as Kenshiro and quickly recruits Lin and Bat into their party. The game follows the manga's plotline from its beginning to the Kingdom of Shura arc. Allies will often join and leave Kenshiro's party as the game continues.

The party can purchase equipment and items in towns and hear about other locations, to which the player can choose to warp directly in order to continue the plot. Random encounters occur once outside of a settlement, but only infrequently. Some enemy characters from the manga are only found through random battles, or via optional secret areas.
