Viewport fixed, I think. I also added a bit black on top and bottom of the screen, to make the space around the status bars symmetrical. I think that looks best in this case.
FAQ: You can select both game characters at the same time thus enabling two-player (simultaneous) mode. On the character selection screen, just press left (or right) until both characters are highlighted at the same time.
You can select both players at once Just press left when Jake or right when Elwood is selected to activate the two player mode. I will now update HOL too...

I've changed the # of players from 1 - 2 (2) to 1. At start of the game you can select the character you want to play, not the # of players
Viewport isn't good enough for the zoom effect at level start (but it fixes the ingame cutoff/black border for now).
