Btw, don't use game_note/variant_note for casual information about the game. You should consider these fields more like "warnings" to the user - things the user may need/want to know before starting the game.
I would say that if the game requires you to have the manual to be able to complete the game (for example if it contains essential information which is not given by the game), this counts as (Manual) copy protection. The point of the protection field is to let the system and user know that for example a Manual is needed to the play the game or variant. If in doubt, we could also write a description in the game_note field: "The manual contains information which is required to complete the game". I intend to display game_note and variant_note in FS-UAE Launcher if they exists. Note: only use game_note for game entries and variant_note for variant entries. This is because it should be possible to display both game_note and variant_note if they exists.
If a game is protected by things listed in the manual, then your choice is right. But I think the WHDLoad version have cracked this protection. It should be irrelevant whats inserted in the manual question.
hi - you're right - in general no variant has a copy protection, but asks for words or facts in the manual or package assets and I didn't know where to note this. theres a field variant_note, but its not for a specific variant and I don't know in which field I shold note this fact
Btw, thanks for adding more - will do on the weekend

Have tested the WHDLoad version and the is no manual based copy protection.

...and this is an in-game protection which not necessaryly appears always at the same situation

Hi Thomas Magnum. Are you sure, that all variants have a copy protection? WHDLoad games shouldn't have one.
