I've rated SPS releases 0123, 1960 and 2269 according to their release date/version number - 1960 and 2269 are bugfix releases. See this EAB thread: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=57894
A config for do_not_use_emu_joystick (or whatever it would be called) would be useful. Games like Space Quest 1&2, King's Quest 1,2,&3, and a few others use the arrow keys to start and stop movement. But at the moment when an emulated joystick is used the arrow keys controls don't act the way they should (i.e. you have to hold down left to move left as apposed to pressing left once to set the character moving left). But you wouldn't know this if you hadn't played the games before.
@thundercato, ah, OK. So the point is that joystick can be used, but emulated joystick should not be used. Should perhaps have a config key for this... -Also , the game ran beautifully smooth with A4000/040 (fastest possible mode), but I'll think a bit more about what to do with these kinds of games (games which benefit from CPU faster than 68020).
@FrodeSolheim The cursor keys are used in-game when selecting which planet to travel to. The game runs at a much higher FPS on a A1200, so I guess it would be best to set to the fastest possible option, A4000?
Do you have a easy way to reorder the floppy images? If not, I have an idea to sort the images by config option. If we have a option like "floppy_x" and a pull down menu with all floppys in the variant, we could set every floppy to a specific drive. X means the drive number in this example. It should be clear, that this option is only available in variants. Just an idea
@thundercato: It does seem that joystick in port 1 is used if connected. Have you set joystick_port_1_mode = nothing because the cursor keys can be used for something ingame? Also, is this a game where all variants should use A1200 for extra speed? Any Frontier expert here?

@antonvaltaz, thanks - very useful information
Summarized, it seems to be (http://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=738227&postcount=22): Frontier 1960 = (Release 1) v1.00 Frontier 0505 = (Release 2G) v1.01 (German Version) Frontier 2745 = (Release 2F) v1.02 (French Version) Frontier 2269 = (Release 4) v1.05 Frontier 0123 = (Release 5) v1.06 Frontier CD32 = (CD32 Release 1) v1.10
I'll update the variant names so the version numbers are included there

At least here. Without a stick set my pad is automatically used in joyport 0.
Well, the game doesn't work properly if the joyport 1 (Joystick) is set to none. The mouse simply doesn't work then.

TODO: Must fix floppy order for IPF versions -the program disk must be inserted in DF0, not the data disk.
